Rain reigns over senior league

THE Dumfriesshire Bowling Association sixth round of the Senior League for the Andrew Logan Cup held on Wednesday, June 17, was a washout but some of the clubs have since played catch-up with the following results:

North Section: Maxwelltown 6 Glencairn 1, Marchmount v Kirkconnel (No result), Thornhill 0 Sanquhar 7, Dumfries 5 Annan 2.

League Table to-date: Annan 36 (+60), Sanquhar 26 (+12), Dumfries 24 (+20), Glencairn 20 (-8), Marchmount 20 (-14), Kirkconnel 16 (-11), Maxwelltown 12 (-22): Thornhill 7 (-37).

Central Section: Annan 5 Lockerbie 2, Dumfries 5 Lochmaben 2, Gretna v Marchmount (No result), Crichton 0 Maxwelltown 7:

DBA TRIPLES LEAGUE

Results in the third round of the Dumfriesshire Bowling Association Triples League for the Cochrane Shield were: Crichton 10 Gretna 4, Eaglesfield 2 Eastriggs 12.

DBA RINKS LEAGUE

Results in the third round of the Dumfriesshire Bowling Association Rinks League, sponsored by Dumfries & Galloway Standard, for the Standard Trophy were: Dumfries 10 Annan 2, Sanquhar 7 Thornhill 5, Kirkconnel 4 Marchmount 8, Lockerbie 2 Maxwelltown 10.

DBA RESERVE LEAGUE

The Dumfriesshire Bowling Association third round for the reserve Rinks League on Thursday June 18 with the following results:

Marchmount 4 Lockerbie 8, Annan 10 Maxwelltown 2, Dumfries Bye:

League Table: Lockerbie 19 (+27), Annan 16 (-2).Dumfries 13 (+5), Marchmount 14 (-13), Dumfries 13 (+5), Maxwelltown 10 (-17). The fourth round is on Thursday June 25.

SCOTTISH COUNTY (HAMILTON TROPHY)

The Dumfriesshire team was at home last Saturday in the last game of the first stage in the Scottish Cities and County Championships (Hamilton Trophy) at Marchmount Bowling Club against Dumbartonshire (E).

Dumfriesshire finished fourth place in the championship table after losing out by 113 shots/108 shots.

Dumfriesshire struggled most of the match going down at the 5th end by 9 shots (19/28), slipped down by 36 shots st the 10th end 37/73.

At the 15th end, the home side continued their recovery being in arrears by 22 shots 67/89.

Dumfriesshire made a tremendous fight back over the last six ends, tallying 41 shots ,but the visitors mustered 24 shots which was enough to give them a winning score by 5 shots.

The Scottish Young Bowler Association are holding their triples at Crichton Bowling Club on Saturday, June 27.

Qualifiers in the Scottish Bowling Association District Championships for the National Championships at Northfield Ayr, on Wednesday, July 29, to Sunday August 2 are:

CLUB OPEN TOURNAMENTS

Lockerbie: Mixed pairs were won Jimmy Pagan, Miffy Johnstone (L/bie) runners up Willie Shearer, (L/bie), Irene Hastings (L/maben). The Semi finalists Roger McGhie, Maureen Gracie (L/maben), and Willie & Barbara Watson (Sanq). The president Jack McCartney presented the prizes,

Gretna: Open American Triples, sponsored by Crossway Garage. First: Willie Adam (Annan), Brian Bryden, Irving Glendinning (Gretna). Second: Billy, O'Hara Jnr, Peter Latimer, John Johnstone.

The sponsor Malcolm Crosbie presented the prizes.

Annan: Gents Singles sponsored by ROM for the ROM Cup was won by Eddy Murray, runner up Kevin Murray. Semi finalists were Stuart Begg (all three prize winners from the home club), second semi finalist Brian Robertson (E/fld).

The Cornet Lass Kate Anderson and Cornet Lad Craig Johnston made the presentations).

Marchmount: The winner of the Open "Set" singles for the Tommy Marr Cup was John Dunlop (Kcl), the runner up Derek Smith ((M/Mount) and the semi finalists were Kate Peacock and Jim Lockerbie (both from the home club). President Kate Peacock presented the prizes.

Crichton: Open American Triples – 1 Sylvia Heyes, Maureen Jackson, Steven Little (Max). 2 Margaret & Ronnie Marchbank, Willie Dawson (Crichton). 3 Cathy & Jim Sim, (Dfs), Ralph Richardson (N/Abbey). Vice president Rena Denholm presented the prizes.

Eastriggs: Winners in the open pairs sponsored by Magnox North, Chapel Cross, were Kenny Richardson, Barry Smith (E/riggs), the runners up John Strong, Andrew Nelson (Annan). Semi finalists were John Wyllie (E/fld), Gordon Armstrong (L/bie) and Bernard Jackson, Ian Nisbet (E/riggs). Sean Marshall on behalf of the sponsors present the prizes.

EX PRESIDENTS

The Dumfriesshire Ex-Presidents Association held a friendly with the London & Scottish Tour at Dumfries Bowling Club on Sunday.

Jim Elliot, the president, welcomed the guests in excellent weather conditions.

There were three presentations made by the Dumfriesshire Ex Presidents Association president Jim Elliot – £200 to David McPherson, convener of the Scottish Young Bowlers Association; £300 on behalf of the Dumfriesshire Under 25s to Peter Howieson, which included a contribution from Canonbie Bowling Club; and a plaque was presented to the president of Dumfries Bowling Club Tom Ross in recognition of the club’s 150th anniversary.

Jim Elliot, the president, thanked Dumfries Club for hosting the friendly and for their hospitality also to the ladies for their catering.

LADIES SECTIONCLUB OPEN TOURNAMENTS

Gretna: Triples sponsored by Contrast Kitchens was won by Anne Motroni, Margaret Cook and Jean Reid (Dfs).

The runners up were Jean Pool, Betty Lindsay, Sheila Woodhouse (Annan). The presentations were made by Betty Park.

Maxwelltown: Pairs winners for the Jenny Stewart Trophy were Kathy Jardine and Betty Kerr (M/Mount), runners up Doreen Brown and June Dinnell (Kbt).

Semi finalists were Sheena Johnstone, Rena Denholm (Crichton) and Margaret McLaren, Kate McShane (Dfs).

Ladies representative Jean Carmichael presented the prizes.

SWBA COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Results in the district finals of the Scottish Women's Bowling Association District Championship at Kirkcudbright on Saturday were:

SSWBA COUNTY TRIPLES

The South of Scotland Women's Bowling Association County Triples first round was held at Lochmaben on Tuesday, June 16, continuing to Tuesday, June 23.

SSWBA LEAGUE

The South of Scotland Women's Bowling Association District League finals will be held on Monday, June 29, at Gretna Bowling Club between: A Section, B Section C Section.

STEWARTRY COUNTY SINGLES

The Stewartry Bowling Association held their County singles semi finals on Sunday at Castle Douglas Bowling Club with the following results:

Keith Shuttleworth (New Abbey) 21 Willie Brydson (Castle Douglas) 9; Bruce Richardson (Dalbeattie) 21 John Crawford (Kirkcudbright) 19.

The winners go through to the finals at New Abbey on Sunday, September 6.
