THE DUMFRIESSHIRE County team was at home at Sanquhar against Lanarkshire (S) on Saturday.
Although Lanarkshire (S) were the narrow winners by 112/107 shots.
The visitors were in the lead throughout the game being in front at the fifth end by seven shots 32/25 increasing their lead to 19 shots 63/44. At the 15th end Dumfriesshire were in arrears by 12 shots 84/72 but were fighting back for as at one stage were only two shots adrift.
Over the last six ends the home side were coming back strongly by scoring 35 shots which was just not enough to over take Lanarkshire for they added 28 shots for a win by five shots.

SBA Championship: On Monday, June 8 the Scottish Bowling Association District Championships held their semi-finals with the following results:

Annan: Mixed pairs for the J & J Thorburn Memorial Cup was won by Christine Povall, John Cairnie; runners-up Betty Wilson, Alan Boyd. The semi-finalists were Elizabeth Bell, Brian Murray and Phyllis and Nicky Nicholson. All the prizes winners were from the home club. Presentations were made by Kenny Thorburn the sponsor.
Marchmount: Mixed American triples for the Mirrey Cup: 1 David Rutherford, Bill Thomson, Pat Laurie; 2 George Robson, Irvine Lawrie, Susan Gass (All M/mount); 3 Ronnie and Margaret Marchbank, Hugh Kelly (C.R.). President Kate Peacock made the presentations.
Maxwelltown: Mixed triples for the O K Geddes Trophy was cancelled for the lack of entries.
Thornhill: Mixed American triples, sponsored by Wallaces Express: 1 Jimmy Broatch, Stuart and Yvonne Hiddleston (Sanq); 2 Trevor Black, Winnie Shields, Gibb McConnell (T/hill). President Bob Steele presented the prizes.
Kirkcudbright: Open triples was won by David and Willie Kiltie, Tom Rogerson (G/hse); runners up George Brown, John McFarlane, Callum King (Kbt). President Helen Johnstone made the presentations.
Beechgrove: Open American pairs sponsored by Star Hotel, Moffat. First: Fred Hollis, John Cairnie, (Annan).
Second: Billy Gordon, Alan Johnson (L/maben). The president Paul Leighfield together with sponsor Jo Phelps presented the prizes.
Lochmaben: Ladies triples for the Laurie Young Cup was won by Elsie Copeland, Sheila Warrick, Liz Johnstone (L/bie); runners up Molly Geddes, (C.R), Mary Armstrong, Hazel Edgar (M/mount). SSWBA League: The penultimate round was held Monday, June 8.

The last round will be held Monday, June 15.
SSWBA County pairs: The semi-finals held were at Maxwelltown Bowling Club on Friday June 5 with the following results: Evelyn Patterson, Greta Howieson (Dfs) lost to Janice Maxwell, Anne Houston (C D) and Jean Reid, Anne Motroni (Dfs) Lost to Sheena Kirkpatrick, Agnes Dorman (Annan). The winners Castle Douglas v Annan go forward to the County Finals on Monday August 17 at Kirkcudbright.
The South of Scotland Women’s Bowling Association County Triples first round will be held at Lochmaben on Tuesday June 16. The results will be reported in the next issue of the Standard.
SWBA County championships: Last weekend saw the start of the Scottish Women’s Bowling District Championship two-bowl Pairs at Castle Douglas. The singles were held at Stranraer.
The results were as follows:
Two-bowl pairs: Irene Brown, Valerie Gordon (Dumfries) v Mae Donaldson, Inga Paterson (Marchmount).
Singles: Peggy Thomson (Castle Kennedy) v Christine Tennant (New Abbey). Both qualified for the district finals on Saturday, June 20 at Kirkcudbright Bowling Club.
