THE DUMFRIESSHIRE County team played away at Kirkcudbright against the Stewartry on Saturday.
In the derby match, Stewartry got the better of the Dumfriesshire team by 117 shots to 95 shots.
This result puts the teams third equal in the league table.
Stewartry took the lead from the start by nine shots at the fifth end 27/18 and at the 10th end were further in front by 19 shots 57/38.
By the 15th end Dumfriesshire were struggling to come to terms but with no avail as they were still trailing by 29 shots 88/59.
With six ends left to the finish the match, the visitors added 36 shots but the home side added another 29 shots to win by 22 shots.

Empire Trophy: The semi finals of the Dumfriesshire Bowling Association’s Empire Exhibition Trophy, sponsored by John McQueen, Engraver, Dumfries was held on Thursday, May 21, with following results:
Maxwelltown 75 Annan 70; Kirkconnel 79 Dumfries 82.
The final, between Maxwelltown and Dumfries, was due to be held yesterday at Thornhill Bowling Club. The result will be reported in the next issue of the Standard.
National Top Ten: The Scottish National County Top Ten Tournament 2009 first round was held on Sunday between Dumbartonshire (Eastfield) v Dumfriesshire (Lockerbie).
Lockerbie were the winners by six points (63 shots) Eastfield 2pts (57 shots).

Under 25s: In the Scottish Bowling League U25s, sponsored by Jack High Insurance, Dumfriesshire/Stewartry U25s were away against Wigtownshire at Whithorn on Sunday.
With one player from three rinks missing, Dumfriesshire/Stewartry team were penalised with shots being deducted. But they still emerged with a winning result by 135 shots to 93.
Wigtownshire were trailing throughout the match, behind by seven shots 22/29, then falling further in arrears by 30 shots 36/66 at the 10th end.
At the 15th end the home side could find no answer to close the gap for they were losing by 47 shots 53/100.
Over the final six ends, Wigtownshire scored 40 shots but the visitors added 35 shots to win with comfortable margin of 42 shots.

Dumfries: Mixed pairs for the Patey Trophy, sponsored by Belhaven Breweries, was won by Lindsay Graham, Mary McKie (Max); runners up David Hunter, Margaret McLaren (Dfs). Semi finalists were Tom McCombe, Cathy Sim (Dfs) and Margaret Cochrane (A/cairn), Gordon Haining (M/Mount). The president Tom Ross presented the prizes,
