THE DUMFRIESSHIRE County players were away to Wigtownshire in the first of the County championships at West End, Stranraer on Saturday.
Dumfriesshire triumphed by the narrowest of margins, by 122 shots to 120.
Dumfriesshire lead by five shots at the fifth end 29/24 but by the 10th end were in arrears by 25 shots (67/42).
At the 15th end, Dumfriesshire were still trailing by 24 shots 95/71. Over the last six ends, Wigtownshire scored another 25 shots but the visitors added a further 51 shots to give Dumfriesshire a win by two shots.

U25s’ league: On Sunday, May 10 the Scottish Bowling League U25s Dumfriesshire/Stewartry Team were away to Annan against Lanarkshire under 25s. Lanarkshire emerged the winners by 153 shots to 80 shots

Senior league: The Dumfriesshire Bowling Association first round of the Senior League for the Andrew Logan Cup was held on Wednesday, May 13 when the following matches were scheduled (results next week).

Empire Trophy: The second round of the Dumfriesshire Bowling Association Empire Exhibition Trophy, sponsored by John McQueen, Engraver, Dumfries was held yesterday between Thornhill v Maxwelltown; Lockerbie v Annan; Kirkconnel v Sanquhar; Crichton v Dumfries.
National Top Ten: The Scottish Inter County Top Ten tournament 2009 preliminary Top round started on Sunday May 17 with Wigtownshire (Stranraer) against Stewartry (Castle Douglas).
The results of the Senior League, Empire Trophy and the National TopTen will be reported in the next issue of the Standard.
Club tournaments
Maxwelltown: mixed pairs for the Maxwelltown Cup was cancelled due to bad weather.
St Mungo: Mixed American triples: 1 Myra & Davy Lowther, Isobel Fraser (E/fld); 2 Fred Hollis, F Wright, Sheila Woodhouse (Annan); 3 Davy Scott, Terry & Jo Sergeant, (N/Castleton). The vice president Andrew Murray presented the prizes.
New Abbey: Mixed American triples was abandoned but the prizes were presented by the president Johny Bigham to the first section lleaders Alex & Elma Mackie, Etta Lawrie (Sanq); and scond section Ralph (Snr & Jnr) Richardson, Isobel Shuttleworth (N/Abbey).
Marchmount: Mixed triples for the McMyn Trophy was won by Colin Mitchell, David Kerr, Alex Dirom and the runners up were Ronnie Marchbank, Alison Duff, Pat Lawrie. President Kate Peacock presented the prizes.
Dumfries: Ladies pairs for the Imrie Rosebowl, sponsored by Sam Templeton, Building Contractors, was won by Dorothy Bigham, Dorothy Thompson (N/Abbey); runners up Isobel Moffat (Max), Anne Motroni (Dfs). Semi finalists were Maureen Love, Kathy Moffat (Dfs) and Margaret McLaren, Kathy Smith (Dfs). Vice president Margaret McLaren made the presentations.

The South of Scotland Women's Bowling Association first round of the league will be held on Monday.
