No luck in senior cup

NITHSDALE, having qualified for the first round of Scottish Senior Cup, took on Auchinleck last Wednesday but lost by 67 shots to 52.

Newton Stewart also lost out in the first round of the senior cup but lost out by 58 shots to 54 shots.

Scottish Cup: Nithsdale competed in the preliminary round of the Scottish Cup, sponsored by Robert Horn, Jewellers, against East Lothian at Tweedbank but did not qualify for the next round having lost out by 104 shots to 60 shots.

Nithsdale at the start were well in contention being down by just four shots, and at the halfway stage were still in arrears but were not out of the game with only a deficit of 17 shots.

But their opponents showed their strength over the final ends which Nithsdale could not match.

The details of the match (East Lothian first); Brian Wyllie 27 Martyn Rice 19; James Hogg 17 Billy Haining 29; Scott Kennedy 25 Colin Peacock 5; Willie Wood 35 Craig Poland 7.

Richard Corsie Junior Cup: On Sunday, Nithsdale Indoor Bowls Club were competing in the Greengauge Junior Challenge cup in a round robin format at the Galleon Bowling Club.

Taking part for Nithsdale were Kirsty Haining and Greg Corbett and although they did not qualify both enjoyed the experience.

Top Team Trophy: The Nithsdale ladies are competing in the Top Team Trophy on Saturday at East Kilbride against Paisley. Players selected to take part are:

Open mixed triples: The Nithsdale Indoor Bowls Club is proposing to hold an open mixed triples competition for first prizes of £250, sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway College on Sunday, March 15.
