Nithsdale out of team contest

NITHSDALE Indoors Bowls Club contested the second round of the Team Championships (Top Ten) against Blantyre at the Galleon on Sunday.

The side were knocked out by six points to two points.

The players representing Nithsdale were: singles Craig Poland; mixed pairs: Jessie Adamson, Stewart Gilmour; mixed triples: Jim Cowan, Kath and Billy Moffat; mixed fours: Jennifer and Donald Poland, Maureen Love, David Fraser.

Nithsdale were also competing in the Senior Scottish Cup at Auchinleck against Paisley on Wednesday. Newton Stewart were also competing in the competition against Prestwick at Nithsdale Bowling Club. The results of both matches will be reported in the next issue of the Standard.

National gents triples: Iain McLelland, Billy Moffat, Marty Rice are representing the Nithsdale Indoor Bowling Club in the preliminary round of the National Gents Triples on Sunday against Blantyre at Ardrossan.

Ladies league: Nithsdale Ladies’ final match in the Scottish League H section is at home against Auchinleck on Saturday.

Auchinleck ran out the winners by 88 shots to 67 shots winning the H section.

Nithsdale, as runners up, are in the Inter Club League play-off.

After five ends Nithsdale took the lead by three shots 19/16 which was the only time the home side was in front.

At the 10th end the visitors went ahead by six shots 34/40 but the home side kept in touch being only down by five shots at the 15th end 52/57.

Auchinleck then pushed further in front at the 18th by 11 shots 60/71. Over the final three ends Nithsdale only added seven shots whereas Auchinleck accrued 17 shots to take the two points by 21 shots.

Final league table: Auchinleck 20 pts (+ 436), Nithsdale 14 pts (+118), Ayr 12 pts (+132), Galleon 10 pts (+55), Prestwick 3 pts (-321), Irvine 1 pt (-420).

National ladies triples: Jan Oliver, Margaret Gillies, Nell Garside are representing Nithsdale Indoor Bowling Club in the preliminary round of the National Ladies Triples on Sunday against Auchinleck at the Galleon.

Open mixed triples: The Nithsdale Indoor Bowls Club is proposing to hold an open mixed triples competition for first prizes of £250, sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway College on Sunday, March 15. Entry £9 per triple and the closing date is Friday, March 6.
