Shaping up for finals

THE DUMFRIESSHIRE Bowling Association County Singles semi finals, sponsored by Annandale Insurance for the McGhie Dairies Cup, were held on Friday.

The results were: Dumfries (W Rice) 21 Marchmount (R Jess) 11; Sanquhar (G Wylie) 13 Crichton (B Greer) 21.

The winners Willie Rice (Dfs) v Bill Greer (Crichton) qualified for the County Finals on Sunday, August 10 at Dumfries Bowling Club.

DBA triples: The DBA Triples, sponsored by Annandale Insurance, for the Border Cars Mazda Trophy took place at Dumfries Bowling Club on Saturday.

Results: Semi finals: Beechgrove 20 Dumfries 17; Annan 14 Marchmount 3.

The winners Beechgrove (D Borthwick, A Armstrong, C Shanks) v Annan (Chris Donaldson, Willie Adam, Roger Murray) qualify for the county finals.

DBA junior singles: The junior singles, sponsored by Annandale Insurance for the Sid Robbins Cup, took place at Maxwelltown on Sunday.

Results: Eastriggs (Scott Smith) 6 Sanquhar (Robert Menzies) 15; Dumfries (Greg Rice) 6 Lockerbie (Gary Robertson) 19:

The winners Sanquhar (Robert Menzies) v Lockerbie (Gary Robertson) qualify for the County finals.

DBA senior pairs: The senior pairs, sponsored by Annandale Insurance for the Senior Pairs Cup, took place at Glencairn on Sunday

Results: Sanquhar (John Hiddleston, Bud Fleming) 16 Eaglesfield (Willie Graham, Sandy Kirkpatick) 14.

Lockerbie (Andy Graham, Bob Dalziel) 18 Maxwelltown (Bill Ridley, Brian Martin) 5;.

The winners Sanquhar (Hiddleston,Bud Fleming) v Lockerbie (Andy Graham, Bob Dalziel) qualify for the County Finals.

DBA mixed pairs: The last of the mixed pairs semi finals, sponsored by Annandale Insurance for the Nithsdale District Council Cup saw Eastriggs (Simon Kirk, Debbie Renwick) 18 defeat Lochmaben (Bruce and Margaret Robison) 14.

The winners Dumfries (John Jarvie, Jan Oliver) v Eastriggs Simon Kirk, Debbie Renwick qualify for the County Finals.

National mixed pairs: The National Mixed pairs championships district play-off between Dumfries and Glenluce was held at Kirkcudbright on Sunday.

The result was (Dumfries) Martyn Rice, Jan Oliver 20 (Glenluce) Robert Bailie, Gillian Gorman 3.

The winners qualified for the last 16 in the final stage at Ralston Paisley on Saturday andSunday, August 23 and 24.

Inter County league: The District 17 Inter County League was held on Friday between Castle Douglas and Kirkconnel at Kirkconnel Bowling Club.

The winners were Castle Douglas by 10pts (77 shots) Kirkconnel 2pts (53 shots).

Details of the match (Castle Douglas first): Steven Richardson 15 Bobby Britton 15, Alan Green 18 John Cameron 16, Willie Green 21 John Dunlop 8, Steven Conchar 23 Alistair Monteith 13.

SBA Councillor Iain McLelland called upon DBA vice president David Nivison to present the trophies.

SSWBA county singles: Over the past two weeks the South of Scotland Women’s Association held its County Triples.

Results: Semi finals Lorna Dobie (CD) beat Sheena Kirkpatrick (Annan); Janice Maxwell (CD) beat Moira Irving (L/mben).

The winners Janice Maxwell v Lorna Dobie, an all Castle Douglas finalists, qualify for the County finals on Monday August 18 at Marchmount Bowling Club

SWBA national championships: are being held on Friday/Sunday July 25/27 at Northfield, Ayr.

Players that have qualified to take part are: Singles: Kathy Stevenson (Stranraer); Four Ball Pairs: Hell Bell, Moira Irving (L/maben); Two Ball Pairs: Margaret Robison, Mabel McDonald (L/maben).

Triples: Valerie Gordon, Maureen Love, Irene Brown (Dfs); Fours: Vivian Taylor, Moira Cronie, Dianna Henderson, Trish Henderson (K/kennedy); Senior Fours: Hannah Perk, Anne Frew, Marie McIntyre, Annie Sproat (WE Stranraer).

Thornhill: Open Singles for the Bill Adamson Memorial Trophy sponsored Carronbridge Sawmill, Thornhill. Winner: Willie Green (CD); runner-up Willie Dalgleish (Sanq). President Trevor Black and Alex Wylie presented the prizes on behalf of Brian and Veronica Wylie.

Lockerbie: Gents triples for the Willie Linton Trophy, sponsored by Famous Grouse, was won by Richard Thomson (L/bie) Ronnie Gass (Wigton) Willie Shearer (L/bie). The runners-up were Kenny Green, Roger McGhie, Bruce Robison (L/mben).

The presentation was made by Valerie Linton.

Gatehouse: Triples for the Bert McCormick Memorial Trophy by Invitation sponsor by Wallets Mart: winners Bob Gilchrist, Julie McDowall, Angie Donaldson (Max) runners up Bill and Helen Neville, Oliver Clingan (N/Abbey). Presentation by President Robert Watson and Margaret McCormick.

Annan: Mixed Pairs is the start of their annual tournament sponsored by Kian Coaches for the Kian of Annan Trophy. The winners were Harris Thorburn, Ian and Chris Donaldson (Annan); runners-up George McCulloch, Jim and June Austin (Max).

Presentation was made by Kian Creighton, sponsor.

Monday was the turn of the mixed pairs sponsored by Willie and Margaret Scott and trophy. Won by Eddie Murray, Christine Creighton (Annan), runners up Bob Robson (Gretna), Jermima Richardson (N/castleton). Margaret Scott presented the prizes.

The gents pairs on Tuesday for the Glendinning Trophy was won by Kevin Murray, Willie Adam (Annan); runners-up Stuart Begg, Billy Smith (Annan).

The presentation was made by Margaret Scott on behalf of the sponsor. Thornhill: Ladies triples for the Jubilee Cup, Sponsored by Bertha Barbour, 101 Bouquet was won by Greta Howieson, Evelyn Patterson, Kate McShane (Dfs) runners up Vi Shackleton, Dorothy Thomson, Margaret Cowan (N/Abbey).

Annan: Ladies Pairs for the Jim Anderson Trophy, sponsored by Joyce Anderson and Margaret Irvine was won by Moira Irving, Maureen Gracie (L/mbn); runners-up Jessie Adamson, (T/hill) June Austin (Max).
