THE Dumfriesshire Bowling Association League triples final for the Cochrane trophy was held on Thursday, July 10 at Lockerbie Bowling Club.
In very wet conditions, the final was curtailed to 11 ends for the second year under similar circumstances and for the second consecutive year Gretna emerged the winner by 10 pts (64 shots) to Crichton 4 pts (41 shots).

The president of the DBA George Steel introduced Hilary Cochrane, the donor of the trophy, who made the presentation.
DBA Rinks League: The Dumfriesshire Bowling Association final round of the rink league, sponsored by the Dumfries and Galloway Standard, for the Standard trophy was held on Thursday, July 10. The results were as follows:
Annan 10 Kirkconnel 2, Marchmount 10 Thornhill 2, Maxwelltown v Dumfries (cancelled), Sanquhar v Lockerbie (cancelled):
League table: winners Kirkconnel 57pts (+48); runners up: Annan 56pts (+51); Thornhill 53pts (+70); Marchmount 46 pts (+ 52); Dumfries 38pts (+17); Maxwelltown 29 (+17); Lockerbie 23 pts (-71): Sanquhar 10 pts (-99).
Kirkconnel are the winners of rinks league and the presentation of the Standard Trophy will take place on the County Finals day Sunday, August 10 at Dumfries Bowling Club.
DBA Top Ten: The Dumfriesshire Bowling Association held the finals of the Top Ten on Friday, July 11 in better weather conditions.
Lockerbie were the winners defeating Dumfries with both teams equal on points 4/4 but Lockerbie won on shots 66 shots to 55.

DBA Singles: The Dumfriesshire Bowling Association County Singles semi finals, sponsored by Annandale Insurance, will be held today between Dumfries (W Rice) v Marchmount (R Jess), Sanquhar (G Wylie) v Crichton (B Greer).
Triples alteration: The Dumfriesshire Bowling Association triples now take place tomorrow at Dumfries Bowling Club.
National mixed pairs: The National Mixed pairs championships were held at Maxwelltown on Sunday, July 13 resulting in a win for Martyn Rice, Jan Oliver (Dfs) over Jim Irving, Myra Lowther (E/fld).
The district playoff between Dumfries v Glenluce is being held at Kirkcudbright on Sunday, July 20, the winners qualify for the last 16 in the final stage at Ralston on Saturday andSunday August 23 and 24.
Inter County League: The District 17 Inter County League will be held on Friday, July 18 between Castle Douglas v Kirkconnel at Kirkconnel Bowling Club.
Tournaments
Gretna: the gents triples knockout sponsored by Peacock Family for the Matthew White Trophy, was won by Iain and Chris Donaldson, Robert McNeil (Annan). Runners up were Brian Bryden, Mac McMillan, (Gretna), Kevin Murray (Annan). Kevin Peacock presented the prizes.
Marchmount: the gents pairs for the Solley Cup, sponsored by Wallaces Express, was won by David and Alan Jess (Dfs). Runners up were Jim Watson, Jim Kerr (M/mount). The president Jockie Newlands presented the prizes.
St Mungo: mixed American triples: 1 Ray and Margaret Hill, Irving Lawrie (M/mount); 2 David Lowther, Isobel Fraser, Gary Robertson (E/fld). Committee member Sandy Bell made the presentations.
Annan: mixed American triples for the J R Moonie trophy, sponsored by J R Moonie: 1 Iain Donaldson, Robert McNeill, Christine Creighton (Annan); 2 George McCulloch, Gordon & Margaret Irving. Presentation was made by Ruby Moonie on behalf of the sponsor.
Sanquhar: mixed pairs, sponsored by Gordon Walker, Butchers for Eroga Shield was won by Steven Richardson (CD), June Dinnell (Kbt); runners up John & Jean Hiddleston (Sanq). Callum Walker presented the prizes on behalf of the sponsors.
Kirkcudbright: the open pairs was won by Betty Whitelaw, Tom Aitken (Kbt); runners up John Crawford, Jean McCartney (Kbt). Presentation was made by the president George Brown.
Creetown: Open Pairs sponsored by Spectrum Care won by Alan & Gary Davies (CD). The prizes were presented by the sponsor.
Charities: The final stages of the ladies charities contest for the Richardson Cup was held on Wednesday, July 9. The results of the finals were:
Winners: Dumfries Bowling Club: Janet Sempleton, Jena Bell, Kate McShane, Evelyn Patterson; runners up Marchmount: M Lockerbie, M Burns, M Rutherford, S Bertram. The semi finalists were Kirkcudbright and Maxwelltown.
This was the 45th year of the charity having raised thousands of pounds for many good causes, organised by Margaret Crosbie and her committee.
The amount raised this year was £1200 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society Dumfries.
A cheque was presented to the secretary Mrs Anne Hope on behalf of the charity by Kay Smith, lady president of Maxwelltown.
Maxwelltown: triples sponsored by Gates Transmissionwas won by Isobel Moffat, Anne Ridley (Max), Marion Caskie (C.R.); runners up were Anne Gordon, Rona Riddell, Christine Vidler (L/mbn). The presentation was made by Angie Donaldson competition secretary on behalf of the sponsor.
