QUEENS's pre-season kicked off in the best possible way on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Clyde.

Gaffer Allan Johnston fielded a total of 22 players on an all-weather pitch at East Kilbride.

Danny Carmichael opened the scoring before trialists Derek Lye and Daniel McKay bagged a goal each.

This was the opening fixture for the Doonhamers ahead of life in the second division.

Willie Gibson made his first appearance in a Queens shirt since re-joining last month.

Johnston made 10 changes at half-time, with first-team regulars Chris Higgins and Nicky Clark getting a run out alongside youth stars such as Patrick Slattery and Ian McShane.

Pre-season continues this weekend against Gretna 2008 on Saturday. New Gretna boss Kenny Brown watched on Saturday as his team ran out 6-1 winners over Ambleside Utd, with exQueens kid Steven Degnan grabbing three.

Meanwhile, Danny Carmichael and Ryan McGuffie helped launch the Doonhamers’ new strips this week.

Queens, who are looking to bounce back from relegation, will again wear Joma strips.

The Doonhamers Travel Club will have their names on the front of the new tops after winning the shirt sponsorship draw in May.

In a double for fan clubs, New Bazaar Doonhamers won the right to have their name on the shorts. MilkLink were the winners of the silent auction and will have their name on the back of next season's tops.
