ALLAN Johnston will kick off his managerial career at Dumbarton in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup.
The Doonhamers were drawn to face the first division new boys yesterday, and will travel to The Rock on Saturday, July 28.
New gaffer Johnston will take his new-look side to the Dumbarton Football Stadium for his managerial bow against Alan Adamson’s side.
Dumbarton were promoted to Scotland’s second tier for the first time in 16 years last month as play-off winners, beating Airdrie United in the final.
With Queens drawn away from home in the first round, Annan Athletic are set to play their home tie against Livingston at Palmerston.
This is due to ongoing construction works taking place at Annan’s Galabank ground.
Queens, runners-up in the competition two season ago, will be looking for a better run this year after falling at the first hurdle last year.
Gus MacPherson’s Doonhamers opened last season’s ill-fated campaign with a first round defeat at Ayr United.
The club has also announced further pre-season plans this week as preparations continue for next season’s second division league campaign.
A trip down the A75 to face Gretna 2008 was confirmed this week, with the local derby at Raydale Park scheduled for Saturday, July 14.
Johnston’s side were originally set to face Partick Thistle that day, but the trip to Firhill has now been moved forward to Wednesday, July 11, but will be played behind closed doors.
lMeanwhile, Willie Gibson is believed to have penned a deal to join the Doonhamers.
The Standard understands that Gibson, 27, held talks with the club last week and penned a deal to re-join his hometown club on Friday.
The club declined to comment yesterday and no one from the Scottish Football Association was available to confirm whether the player’s registration had been lodged with the governing body.
An announcement is expected from Palmerston imminently.
