Exceptional season for schools association

THE 2008-09 season has been extremely successful for Dumfries and Galloway Schools Association.

League titles were closely contested; Dumfries Academy won the U16 Scottish Shield; Lockerbie Academy lifted the under 13 Scottish Shield and the regional primary team won the National Trophy for the second time.

In addition, the regional under 15 team progressed to the quarter-finals of the National Trophy losing narrowly to Edinburgh.

Steven Black of Annan Academy and Paul Leighfield of Moffat Academy brought honour to the association on their selection for the Scottish Schools’ FA U18 international team for fixtures against England (live on Sky TV), Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Paul was given the honour of captaining the side.

Large schools’ leagues: Senior – Dumfries High; U16 – Stranraer Academy; U14 – Annan Academy and Stranraer Academy; U13 – Lockerbie Academy and Stranraer Academy

Small school leagues: Senior – Wallace Hall Academy; U15 -Castle Douglas and Sanquhar Academy.

Cup winners:

U15 Hunter Shield – Stranraer Academy; runners-up – Sanquhar Academy.

U13 Gordon Cup – Lockerbie Academy; runners-up – Stranraer Academy.

U14 Small Schools’ Cup – Wallace Hall Academy; runners-up – Dalry Sec.

U16 Small Schools’ Cup – Maxwelltown High; runners-up – Sanquhar Acad.
