Woman dies after pavement car crash

A woman has died after a car mounted a pavement and hit her, police said.

The pedestrian, thought to be aged in her 30s, suffered serious head injuries in the collision on Jeanfield Road in Perth.

Tayside Police said a red Toyota Corolla was seen mounting the pavement and colliding with her near the road's junction with Cornhill Road and Burghmuir Road.

The force said a car matching the description of the one involved in the accident was traced elsewhere in Perth and an 81-year-old man is now helping police with inquiries.

The woman, who has not been identified, was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where it was later confirmed she had died.

Crash investigators were sent to the scene and the road closed. Police have asked any witnesses to contact them.
