Salmond backs Games safety call

The Scottish Government has called for immediate action from the Indian authorities to address concerns over the safety of athletes' accommodation at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

A Team Scotland party of 41 athletes and staff who were scheduled to fly out to the Indian capital on Thursday announced plans to delay their departure after complaints the athletes' village is not fit for purpose.

Several top athletes have withdrawn from the Games after the footbridge to the main stadium collapsed and the roof of the weightlifting venue fell in.
