Spring clean campaign

A CALL has gone out for a spring clean of Dumfries.

It’s the latest strand of the People’s Project from Mark Jardine who was in High Street on Thursday giving it a quick sweep.

And he’s calling on all locals to get involved.

He said: “Following the clean-up of the riverside and the cycle path organised by Civic Pride, it became apparent to me that there are not just a few people who drop litter – we are suffering from an epidemic of littering.

“We need an army of volunteers to make a difference and as the weather improves why not start with a spring clean and we do with our homes and gardens and even our cars?”

Mark has sent letters to schools urging them to get pupils to do their bit and has contacted the police and council to revive his clean-up bid.

He added: “The basic idea of the spring clean is to get the litter problem under control first, making it possible to manage in the future.

“The beauty of the principle though is that it’s not just a one day wonder, we’ve got all spring to tackle the problem.”
