PEOPLE’S Project pioneer Mark Jardine has praised fireworks revellers for keeping Dumfries clean.
He says only “eight or nine” pieces of litter were found at Park Farm after Sunday night’s display.
Several thousand people attended the event.
Mr Jardine, who is behind the power to the people move to keep Dumfries clean, said: “I was surprised to say the least.
“I went round after it finished with a few bin bags looking to pick up some of the rubbish.
“But there were only eight or nine pieces, I couldn’t believe it.
“In previous years, we have filled dozens of bags with the rubbish that has been dropped and left behind.
“Presenter Tommy Jardine did announce at the start the message of the People’s Project and what it was about so people are obviously taking it on board.
“It is a great credit to the people of the town for doing that and it shows the message is getting through in time and people are beginning to take a pride in their town.”
Meanwhile, the latest People’s Project idea is starting to take off.
The Sunday Sweep calls on locals to pick up rubbish while out a walk on a Sunday, on their way to pick up the papers or coming back from church.
Mark said: “We are starting to get churches on board and we need everyone to pick up a little bit of litter when they’re out on a Sunday.”
