MSP makes a house call

GALLOWAY and Upper Nithsdale MSP and Scottish Parliament presiding officer, Alex Fergusson had a look around a multi-million social housing development recently.

He was accompanied by councillors Roberta Tuckfield and John Dougan on the visit to Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership’s new development at Ailsa Gate in Stranraer.

He said: “It is hard to believe the scale of the development that has taken place on this site since I cut the first sod in June 2007.

“Given the amount of earth moving that has been required it is almost incredible that the development is at such an advanced stage and it is impressive to say the least.

“I was particularly pleased to have met some of the first tenants who have moved in within the last three weeks or so.

“They are clearly delighted with their new home, and the fact that they have had some influence on the internal design of their homes will give them a real sense of ownership.

“The real worth of Ailsa Gait will be seen when the regeneration of Dicks Hill is well and truly underway.”
