Court date mix-up for accused

A FORMER Dumfries and Galloway councillor has appeared before the Sheriff at Dumfries on a warrant after failing to appear at a preliminary trial hearing in the court.

Moses Kungu, of Main Street, Kirkconnel, explained that his non-appearance had been due to a misunderstanding with the fiscal’s office.

A new trial date has been fixed for November over allegations involving the disposal of waste building material.

The 60-year-old businessman maintained his plea of not guilty to failing to remove waste soil, concrete, wire, slates, plastic, from and polystyrene from a site at Kirkconnel last August.

He also denies keeping the waste material in April and September without a waste management licence in force.
