A bookmaker is paying out on bets for Queen of the South to win the league with more than three months of the season remaining.
Online firm Blue Square Bet took the decision on Monday after the Doonhamers moved 19 points clear at the top of the second division.
Company spokesman Alan Alger told the Standard: “The seventh straight league win against Forfar at the weekend has convinced us to raise the white flag .”
Blue Square Bet also paid out on Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic winning their leagues but the team that cost them dearly was Queens.
Mr Alger added: “The one that hurt us was Queen of the South. They were backed from a pre-season price of 4/1 by lots of shrewd fans.”
Queens boss Allan Johnston doesn’t want premature talk of the title and insists his side still has work to do.
But after Saturday’s defeat at Palmerston, Forfar Athletic boss Dick Campbell said: “They could only have the biggest hiccup in football history not to win this championship.”
