Doctor Who star’s rom-com heads to Moffat

DOCTOR WHO star Karen Gillan will film in Moffat this month.

The red-headed beauty will be in the town to shoot rom-com Not Another Happy Ending.

The movie tells the tale of a struggling publisher, played by French actor Stanley Weber, who discovers his only successful author, Gillan, is suffering writer’s block.

He knows he has to unblock her or he’s finished.

With her new-found success, she has become too happy and she can’t write when she’s happy.

The only trouble is, the worse he makes her feel, the more he realises he’s in love with her.

Weber recently starred alongside Audrey Toutou in Thérèse Desqueyroux, the movie chosen to close the Cannes Film Festival.

The Scottish movie, directed by John McKay who has been behind such shows as Life on Mars and Lip Service, also stars Gary Lewis, who played Jack, father of Billy Elliot, the captivating study of a boy growing up in tough Tyneside, determined to become a ballet dancer; Downton Abbey’s Anna Griffin, who plays Lady Sybil Crawley; and The Midnight Beast’s Sophie Wu, who plays Zoe.

The movie is being produced by Synchronicity Films and the British Film Company.

Camera crews will visit Upper Annandale during the last week of July with other scenes being filmed in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, another film crew will descend on Dumfries to shoot short thriller The Gas Man around the same time.

The story focuses on one night when a woman finds herself at the mercy of an unwanted guest.

The movie will be shot during a four-day stint in a secret location in Dumfries by Wellington Films, and funded by part of Rankin Film’s Collabor8te scheme.
