Moniaive pupils help sick children

DUMFRIESSHIRE youngsters have been raising money to help sick children.

All 53-pupils at Moniaive Primary School pulled out all stops to raise £160 for the Yorkhill Children’s Foundation which provides enhanced medical equipment and resources for sick children and babies being treated at Glasgow’s Yorkhill Hospital.

In addition to holding a dress-as-you-please day and running a fudge stall at their Christmas Fayre, the collection from the school’s Nativity service was also to donated to this cause.

And the pupils were delighted with a visit from Kirsten Sinclair from the foundation last week when the pupil council handed over the bumper cheque.

During her day at Moniaive Primary, Kirsten spent some time with the pupils telling them about the different activities that the trust organises to help make a stay in hospital more bearable for their young patients and to speed their recovery - including “clown doctors” and movie premiers.

Acting headteacher Carol Moyes says she is very proud of the children.

She said: “The pupils are all agreed that it was a very worthwhile cause and were pleased to have been able to help.”
