Tributes paid to tragic Jordan

THE TRAGIC death of a young man from Dumfries has left his family and friends deeply shocked.

Queen of the South legend Jim Thomson led the tributes to 20-year-old Jordan McKie who was found dead on Sunday morning.

Police said there was no suspicious circumstances after Mr McKie’s body was discovered at his home in Mosspark Place in the early hours of the morning.

The youngster known as “Potter” was a dedicated supporter of Queens and had spent Saturday watching their victory against Ayr.

And it is his loyal following of the Palmerston club which has prompted most of the tributes.

Former club captain, Mr Thomson, told the Standard: “I met him most nights after games in the social club.

“He was a lovely boy and my heart goes out to his family as it is such a tragedy. He never missed a Queens game.”

Mr McKie, who worked as a joiner, was originally from Heathhall where the family home is but had recently moved in with his fiancée.

Friends said he had also been planning a 21st birthday party.

A statement from the family said: “Jordan, or Potter as he was affectionately known, was a time served joiner and had been engaged for almost two years.

“He was a loyal and passionate supporter of his beloved Queen of the South and the Scottish national team and will be sorely missed by those who stood alongside him on the terraces. All of Jordan’s family, his parents, brothers, sister and fiancée are devastated by this sudden and tragic event.

“They will all miss him dearly and would ask that their privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”

Mr McKie came from the same circle of friends as Jade Moore – the 17-year-old Holywood girl who was killed after being struck by a car on the A75 in May.

Yesterday, her father Jim said: “He and Jade were great pals and I feel so sorry for his family as I know how they feel.

“He was always up at the house and would go to the football with Jade. Jordan was always the life and soul of the party and was so full of life.

“It is really tragic that he has died and so soon after Jade.”

After the match on Saturday, pals said Mr McKie had travelled back to the Palmerston to celebrate the victory in the social club.

They later went into Dumfries town centre.

One friend said: “I was out with him and he was in good spirits. He was enjoying himself so it’s a real shock.”

A police spokesman said: “There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”
