SIX people have been chasing every one of the 180 jobs on offer at the new Tesco store currently under construction in Annan.
The 1,100 applications to a recruitment team has taken bosses by surprise.
So far 140 staff have been recruited for the store at Watchill and there are still 40 positions left to fill.
Store manager Neil Armour says that, despite a set-back with the wet weather of late, the building is now watertight and external fittings are underway.
It is on schedule for its December 7 opening.
Jean Wilson, district manager at Jobcentre Plus said:“The creation of over 180 jobs in Annan will give the jobs market a timely and welcome boost.” Job application forms are available from 01461 633063.
Annan artist Paul Cowan is creating a haaf netter in metal work to stand as a new landmark on the roundabout at the store entrance.
