Council secures campaign award

A LOCAL campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse affecting older women has won a national award.

The campaign faced stiff competition but was judged to be the most effective by the Association of Social Care Communicators (ASCC) and attracted a £500 first prize.

Lisa Rothwell, who works for the Domestic Abuse and Women Against violence Partnership in Dumfries and Galloway, received the award in Dundee from Lynne Clifford, chairwoman of Policy Group, ASCC.

Lisa said: “This was an important strand of our work in 2007 and continues to be so. It is very hard for anyone to break free from an abusive partner but as an older person the issues are different.

“We wanted the older generation, their families and other organisations to understand the different problems they face and to know that help is available.”
