Police hunt for sex attacker

A POLICE manhunt is underway after a woman was indecently assaulted in Dumfries.

A 26-year-old woman was attacked in the early hours of Sunday, June 21.

The police have issued an E-fit image of a man they want to question about the incident.

Detective Constable Stephen Bell said: “We’re trying to track down as many witnesses as possible and we believe he could help with our enquiries.

“If anyone knows who this man is, or if he sees this himself, they should contact the police.”

He urged members of the public to contact the police rather than approaching the man.

The attack took place along Welldale Place at around 3am.

The woman attacked was grabbed by a man, but escaped after fighting back and fleeing.

DC Bell stated that there was no evidence to suggest the attacker would strike again, but warned the public to remain vigilant.

He added: “There has been no repeat offence and the increased police presence may have put off this individual.

“At the moment it is an individual incident and is being treated as such.”

He also played down fears that the attacker would chose the weekend to re-offend as no incident has since occurred.
