THE END of June signals the end of another Rotary Year.
Monday night’s meeting of the Lockerbie and District Rotary Club was a handover to the new president and his team.
Retiring President, Ian Scott, gave a short address to members on the year and thanked members for their support and enthusiasm during his term in office.
He gave particular mention and thanks to John Carpenter who is stepping down as Club Secretary after 12 years in the post.
He then presented the chain of office to Alan Bateman.
President Alan in turn thanked Ian for his leadership and gave members his vision for the year ahead.
The work of Rotary and its many facets of fundraising and service were uppermost in his mind, but he hoped that the fun, friendship and fellowship enjoyed by members doing that would also be present.
Alan then asked the principal conveners to give a short statement of their aims and objectives for the year ahead and even at this early stage, it promises to be an interesting, busy but most of all, enjoyable programme.
As a club in Rotary District 1020, Lockerbie and District Rotary Club is in one of only four Districts in Rotary International of Britain and Ireland (RIBI) to be selected as a pilot district for the future vision of Rotary Foundation beginning in 2010.
The district will implement a new, more accountable, transparent, focused and easier to manage system to enable clubs to deliver their humanitarian service projects.
Anyone who wishes to learn more of the work of Rotary should contact the new secretary, Blair Crossan on 01576 202438.
The Rotary intends to hold a meeting shortly for potential members.
