THE FUNERAL of a 21-year-old Dalbeattie man who died on Saturday morning was held yesterday.
Friends and family of Cameron Link will attend St Peter’s Church in Dalbeattie to grieve his death and celebrate his life.
The popular young man was found dead in a house in Glenshalloch Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Rumours have been circulating that Cameron died after being assaulted the previous weekend, but police have revealed this is not the case.
Detective Inspector Mark Hollis, from Galloway CID, said: “There has been some local speculation that the death was a result of an assault that recently took place on Mr Link.
“However, as a result of the post mortem carried out on Tuesday, I am able to confirm that there is no connection whatsoever between this assault and his death.
“Our enquiries still continue and we are determined to establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
The assault took place in the Market Hill area of Castle Douglas in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, and police are still looking for two men in connection with the incident.
A website set up in memory of Cameron following his death was awash with messages of sorrow and tribute.
One comment, left by his dad David and his wife Dawn, said: “Cammy, we love you with all our hearts, our big beautiful boy.
“We will miss you so much and you leave a huge void in our lives. Words cannot explain how very, very sad we are.
“We love you and you will be forever in our hearts and minds. Love and great big hugs from dad, mum, Dawn, Larry, Chloe, Jonathan, Darryl and Darcy.”
The funeral service is at 1pm.
