STAFF and residents at The Granary in Dumfries are inviting visitors to a Sparkling Strawberry Tea during Wimbledon to boost funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Everyone is welcome to the event at the private retirement development in Glebe Street. Doors open at 3pm on Wednesday, July 1, and there is a small admission charge of £1.
An event will also be running the following day on Thursday, July 2, at the company’s Murray Court development in Annan where there will be a coffee morning from 10.30am.
McCarthy & Stone, the UK’s leading retirement house builder, has adopted Marie Curie as its charity of the year and The Granary is one of a number of developments in Scotland supporting the appeal.
Money raised by the UK-wide partnership will be used to provide Marie Curie Cancer Care nurses to care for terminally ill people in the comfort of their own homes. McCarthy & Stone aims to donate £30,000 – enough to pay for at least 1,500 hours of care.
Claire Dunlop, from McCarthy & Stone, said: “Ten developments in Scotland participated in the first round of fundraising events in April raising just over £2,000 and we aim to keep the momentum going.
“In addition to the entry fee, all other proceeds raised on the day will go to Marie Curie. It should be fun watching Wimbledon on the big screen in the residents’ lounge at The Granary.”
The Granary and Murray Court have been specially designed for people aged 60 and over and each comprises private apartments as well as a residents’ lounge, a shared laundry room, guest suite and landscaped garden.
