A WOMAN is fighting for her life in hospital after a horror crash near Lockerbie left her with serious injuries.
The 38-year-old was rushed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary on Friday, after the vehicle she was in crashed on the southbound carriageway of the A74(M). The collision happened at 8.45pm.
The woman, who is from outwith Dumfries and Galloway, was a passenger in a car which ran off the motorway and crashed into a tree.
As part of the police inquiry, the road was closed 24 hours after the crash.
Officers shut the southbound section between Johnstonebridge and Lockerbie for about two hours on Saturday night to allow accident investigators to examine the scene.
A police spokesman said: “She was taken to Dumfries Infirmary where her condition is described as critical but stable. Two other male passengers of the vehicle, aged two and six years, sustained minor cuts and bruises in the incident. The 39-year-old male driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the incident. They were all from outwith the region.”
An appeal for witnesses is continuing.
A police spokesman added: “Anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the vehicle involved or was travelling in the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact police.”
