Dumfries youngsters secure haul of medals at swimming championships

TALENTED Ellie Minto and Morven Clements returned to DG One this week to show off the medals they secured at the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships.

The girls secured an impressive three golds and one bronze between them at the event held in Glasgow on Saturday.

Dumfries Academy pupil Ellie, aged 13, picked up her first gold in the 13/14 category 200m breaststroke, storming to victory in a time of 2.48.83, 12 seconds faster than her closest competitor.

She then went on to continue her dominance in the breaststroke events taking the 13/14 100m event in a time of 1.19.44.

Morven, aged 13, of St Joseph’s College, started off her day in the 13/14 age group 100m fly gaining a bronze medal in a time of 1.10.44.

She then took the gold in her strongest event the 13/14 200m fly, swimming a powerful second 100m to finish in a time of 2.28.80 gaining a British Championship Qualifying time in the process.

Both girls train at DG One in Dumfries where qualification for this event was held via the Dumfries and Galloway School Swimming Championships in November.
