THE ROTARY Clubs of Dumfries and Thornhill and District recently joined forces to present their Young Musician of the Year Competition in Dumfries’ Cairndale Hotel.
Nine talented local musicians from three schools competed in two categories – Young Vocalist and Young Instrumentalist.
Wallace Hall student Kirsty Bryson triumphed in the vocal section, with Llinos Price representing Dumfries Academy as runner-up.
In the instrumental section flautist Julian Pombo of Wallace Hall just managed to emerge as winner over his fellow student and pianist Kelvin Riley.
All four young musicians progress to the Dumfries and Galloway final shortly to be held in Annan.
Master of ceremonies for the evening was Thornhill Rotarian Brian Lord.
The hard-pressed adjudicator Frank Davis in his summing up said: “Tonight’s performances are truly of an exceptionally high standard. Great credit must go to parents and teachers who have encouraged and coached these young people.”
