Pupils put art on the buses

TWO YOUNGSTERS from Lochside Primary School will be keeping an extra lookout for buses in Dumfries.

But not to catch a lift – they’ll be looking at their artwork on the outside.

Acacia Clash and Kyle McCleary were the winners of a competition run during the school’s careers week run in conjunction with bus operator Stagecoach.

Hugh Fowler, operations manager for Stagecoach, said: “As part of the school’s careers week which coincided with our green travel week, we had the kids tour the depot and travel on a bus which was great fun for everyone.

“We ran a competition to colour in a bus: the standard was very high and the winners have their pictures put on the rear of our buses.”

Mrs Gamble, deputy head teacher, said: “The infant classes were looking at ‘When I grow up, I want to be …’, and as part of this project, they looked at the role that bus drivers play in Dumfries.

“The tour of the depot along with the competition has really inspired them.”

Acacia and Kyle were delighted to see their designs printed on the buses, and thought they “looked cool” after visiting the depot with their P2 classmates.

Keep an eye out round the town and try to spot them.
