Plan emphasis on safety

SAFETY first is a message that has been drummed into youngsters at Troqueer Primary School.

Pupils have been working together to create a school travel plan which looks at how pupils and staff get to school.

The eco and health groups have been working with the P7 junior road safety officers, Finn Hall and Alexandra Connon, to complete the plan.

The youngsters also looked at hot spots or areas of concern and suggested possible solutions to those problems.

Lessons involved all areas of road safety and each class customised their own reflective hi-visibility vests, were given training on using the toucan crossing on Pleasance Avenue, and created badges to support their walking to school campaign.

They also learned about cycle safety, worked out the braking distance cars need to be able to stop in an emergency, and learned from Dougie the Doonhamer on how to cross the road.
