Dumfries school raises cash for Marie Curie

S3 PUPILS at Dumfries High School recently organised a fun charity football event to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

It involved teachers versus students, and there were both male and female teams.

Some of the players wore Marie Curie Cancer Care tops, some wore daffodil hats and others were in fancy dress. This event happened during a lunch break at Dumfries High School.

Mark McMinn from Queen of the South was the referee and issued two yellow cards, both to teachers.

The female game kicked off first and was very entertaining, with Batman and Bananaman both in goal for one team. However their superpowers were not apparent as they let in two goals as their team slumped to a two nil defeat.

Mrs Hogg, the principal teacher of additional support for learning, said: “The pupils did a great job in organising this event. It is the culmination of a whole year of fundraising events and was a great success. However after the display by our two goalies, contracts for Batman and Bananaman will not be being renewed.”

The male teachers’ team beat the S3 boys team by four goals to three but only because they resorted to bringing on two extra players.

Ian Potts, the boys’ team captain, said: “The pupils deserved to win because we played the best football and the teachers had two extra players. We didn’t mind though because it was all for a good cause.”

Mr Cubbon, depute rector at the school, said: “The pupils worked incredibly hard to organise a fantastic fundraising event, which enabled lots of money to be raised for a very worthwhile cause. The pupils involved are a real credit to the school.”
