LOREBURN teacher Marjorie York said a tearful farewell to her pupils as she prepared for retirement. The primary two teacher, who is due to retire in September, said she will miss the pupils, staff and parents who have made her job very enjoyable.
She said: I knew I would feel quite emotional when I took my last class on Friday.
I have loved my job but it is time for me to retire.
It is the last day of term so no doubt we will have lots of fun, which will make my last day with my primary two class very enjoyable.
Mrs York will retire after nearly 40 years in the industry on September 26 the same day as her birthday.
I dont retire until September but it wouldnt be fair to take a class for only six weeks, so when we come back after the school holidays I will be doing the odd job around the school, she explained.
It will probably feel strange not teaching my own class, but it gives me time to say my goodbyes.
Mrs York began her career in 1969 and took up her first post at Georgetown Primary School, where she taught for seven years.
She then moved to Loreburne Primary and has been teaching their for 18 years.
She said: I am very sad to be leaving, I loved my time here at Loreburn Primary.
Teaching is a very rewarding job and I will miss everyone.
