Region's roads to get pothole repairs

A £400,000 pot hole hit list has been set up.

The 11-routes across Dumfries and Galloway are to have a revamp of their surfaces to avoid further decay.

The list includes Georgetown Road in Dumfries, the A711, the A714 and other minor routes. They are all set for resurfacing and strengthening work.

Councillors on the corporate policy committee will be asked to approve the spending at a meeting next week.

In a report, infrastructure asset manager Steven Herriott said the risks of not fixing the decaying road network included “catastrophic collapse of one or more elements of the network”, increased costs to the council, a rise in liability claims from members of the public and an increase in road traffic collisions with road becoming “less safe”.

The cash has been set aside from unspent funds in a 2008/09 capital expenditure programme.
