A WIN on the horses resulted in shepherd Robert Hislop losing his driving licence for 12 months and being handed a £500 fine at Dumfries Sheriff Court.
After visiting the bookies in Lockerbie, 48-year-old Hislop decided to treat himself to a Sunday roast ... and had a couple of beers as well. And he ended up just over the borderline for driving.
In court, Hislop, of Carterton Cottages, Corrie, near Lockerbie, admitted committing the offence last November.
His solicitor Roger Colledge said Hislop had only gone into Lockerbie to give a friend a lift and decided to visit the bookmakers while there. He added that Hislop lived in a remote area and he would have difficulties without a car, but hoped to keep his job.
