PRIMARY seven girls from the Annan cluster primary schools are stepping up to the challenge in 2012 thanks to new step aerobics equipment purchased under the Fit for Girls initiative.
Fit for Girls, which has been running for six years in the Annan cluster, encourages girls to take part in new or different sports and activities.
The programme forms part of a PE partnership project lead by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s leisure and sport active schools co-ordinator Tina Lockhart and PE specialist in the Annan cluster Margaret Mannall.
The 30 steps will also be used to work with pupils from nursery through to P7 by means of improving balance and co-ordination skills and developing class fitness challenges.
Annan Academy PE Teacher Sheila Court will be providing refresher training to council’s leisure and sport staff in order to roll out after school and curricular sessions under the Active Schools programme.
