It's Complicated (15): The ubiquitous Meryl Streep plays a happily divorced business woman who has a new romantic interest, Steve Martin, but accidentally ends up having an affair with her ex-husband, Alex Baldwin.

So yes life gets complicated in this merry mix up.

Sherlock Holmes (12a): Guy Ritchie's revisionist version has Robert Downey Jr (pictured right) as a pugilistic Holmes with Jude Law more than a match for him as Dr Watson.

Watson is about to leave Baker Street with his fiance, Kelly Reilly and the petulant Holmes throws his toys out of the pram.

This Holmes is an action man and purists may wince as he relaxes with fist fights and bust ups galore set to a pounding soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.

The complicated plot involves, Lord Blackwood, (Mark Strong), who survives a hanging to resurrect with a plan to rule the world.

Rachel Adams is Irene Adler, master thief and Holmes' true love but in the Baker Street house it is a boy's world.

Creation (PG): The Senior Screen today is the story of Charles Darwin, focusing on his family life and the personal trauma that his revolutionary thesis on the Origins of the Species caused.

Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre, Dumfries

Welcome (15): A deeply moving story of how a young Kurdish boy travels across Europe to reach Britain to be reunited with his girlfriend in London.

Bilal is only 17, has never been in trouble, but falls foul of the immigration blockade at Calais. His attempts to smuggle his way across the Channel fail so he takes swimming lessons with the intention of swimming to Britain.

The film is a sensitive portrayal of his friendship with his French teacher who is trying to cope with his divorce and who despite their age and cultural differences strikes up a friendship with Bilal as he prepares for his impossible task.

The film was shot around the now demolished refugee camp known as 'the jungle' and challenges preconceptions of the plight of Euro-refugees. (Showing today and tomorrow).

Nine (12A): A musical based on the 1982 Broadway original which in turn was inspired by Fellini's film '81/2'.

Daniel Day Lewis is the Italian film director with a mid-life crisis and creative block who reviews his life and the women who have played a crucial role in it to seek new inspiration.

An amazing all star cast includes Marion Cotillard as his wife, Penelope Cruz as his mistress, Nicole Kidman as his filmic muse, Judi Dench as his costume designer and confidant and Sophia Loren as his mother. It's not another 'Chicago' but director Rob Marshall has the knack of reviving the glitz and glamour of the old razz-ma-tazz and here gives 60s Rome a refreshing shot of La Dolce Vita.

Also showing here are Sherlock Holmes (12a) and St Trinians 2: The Secret of Fritton's Gold with Rupert Everett in drag and David Tennant as a woman hating baddie.
