Letter regarding Scottish Cycle Museum

SIR – I would like to appeal to your readers to see if they could help with a new display at the Scottish Cycle Museum at Drumlanrig Castle which opens on March 26.

The museum was completely updated last year and has around 70 bicycles and tricycles including the MacMillan machine.

This first bicycle invented in Dumfries and Galloway demonstrated an idea whose energy is undiminished 170 years later.

The new display is designed to demonstrate how this invention has touched so many lives and to do this could we appeal for your readers to send us any photographs of bicycles.

These would be used in the new display in the museum shop at the entrance to the exhibit area.

The photographs could be modern or family archive, local or from abroad where the bicycle is often the main form of transport.

Just as long as it includes a bicycle.

We won’t be able to return photographs so if it is precious, send us a copy.

The museum will be open till late October this year.

Group tours can be arranged – please give us a call.
