A burning issue for all

Sir – Readers will be interested to note that in Parliament on June 11, following a debate on the National Waste Plan, an amendment was made by Robin Harper saying there should be “no necessity for any large-scale waste-to-energy plants to be built in Scotland”.

This was agreed and accordingly the Parliament resolved “as a priority, to better address the management, reduction, recycling and disposal of commercial and industrial waste in Scotland, and believes that, given the good progress being made so far, there should be no necessity for any large-scale waste-to-energy plants to be built in Scotland and that reuse, reducing waste creation and recycling are the best way forward.”

That being the voted will of Parliament must surely be an incontrovertible statement to developers, planners and SEPA that neither the people nor the Government want any new incinerators in Scotland.
