‘Racist’ fuss astounds me

Sir – I have to admit to being totally astounded by the fuss over the saying used by Councillor McKie (Councillor slammed for ‘racist’ remark, Friday, September 4).

It is sometimes difficult, these days, to remember that terms that we have often grown up with are no longer PC.

David McKie is an extremely hard-working and efficient councillor who is highly valued by his constituents.

I believe he apologised for his error and did not intend it as an insult.

Any pursuit of this matter which may detract form the good work Councillor McKie does would be nothing more than petty.
