A Lockerbie man was killed when his car crashed on the A709 Dumfries to Lochmaben road on Wednesday night.
Twenty-three-year-old Michael Goldie was driving the white Honda CRX when the accident happened around 10.15pm. He died at the scene.
His 21-year-old passenger, named locally as Murray Caven, was rushed to Dumfries Infirmary where he is being treated for broken legs and facial injuries.
His condition was yesterday described as serious but stable.
The road was closed for seven hours while emergency services attended the scene and police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
The crash happened on the outskirts of Lochmaben.
Mr Goldie’s sister Lindsay posted a message on Facebook saying: “I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words through this horrible and heartbreaking time. Michael was my best friend, my brother, and now my guardian angel.”
